Amy Childs felt the full force of the Parenting Police after revealing that she planned to wean her four-month-old daughter, Polly – even though the recommend age for weaning is six months old.
The 27-year-old TOWIE star
took to Instagram to inform her followers of her plan, sharing a photo
of baby rice and creamed porridge as she explained her decision.

She captioned the snap with: “Ok girls, so here goes!!! Can’t
believe polly is now 4 months, where does the time go? Right, so I’m
going to put polly on baby rice, she seems to be getting so hungry.
“I was feeding her every 4 hours and now she is
waking up in between wanting more food! I don’t know why, I still think
she is so small to be having baby rice but I’m going to give it a try as
they’re now say to put them on rice at 4 months (a lot of new mums told
me not to wait until they’re 6 months).
“Polly is a very hungry baby, were any other mums nervous weening?? I sure am, will let you no how I get on.”
Amy was quickly blasted as “irresponsible” by concerned fans, with others urging Amy to wait.
One wrote: “The amount of
f*cking stupid on this post. As an influential person, @amychild1990
should not be promoting early weaning end of.
“Guidelines are there for a reason, mumma
doesn’t know best over health professionals and research. Absolutely
irresponsible on her part.”
Others added: “So irresponsible to even
consider giving your child baby rice at her age, it basically has no
nutritional value whatsoever.”
“I personally feel that you’re using your
position really irresponsibly. Rather than asking your thousands of
followers, who have a vested interest in agreeing with your every word,
about your baby’s health and welfare, could you not access your health
visitor? That’s what they’re there for.”

The NHS give the following health recommendation on weaning:
“Research shows babies can get all the nutrients they need from breast
milk or infant formula until they are around six months old.
“Waiting till then gives their digestive
system time to develop fully so it can cope with solid foods. This
includes solid foods made into purées and cereals added to milk.
“If you are breastfeeding, having breast milk
alone up to the age of six months will protect your baby against
infections. Breast milk will carry on protecting them from infections
for as long as you carry on feeding.”
Amy has not responded to the backlash and Yahoo Celeb UK have contacted her rep for comment.
