fresh food of Costa Rican

FRESH FOOD IS INTRINSIC TO COSTA RICAN GASTRONOMY
In Costa Rica, there is an emphasis on fresh, farm-to-table cuisine that is packed with nutritional value. Protein-rich breakfasts, such as gallo pinto, are balanced with lunches including casados, soups and salads. Flavorful roots and vegetables - tacaco, pejibaye, and chicasquil - are Costa Rican favorites and definitely worth a try on your next trip!

COSTA RICAN CULTURE IS CENTERED AROUND HEALTHY CUISINE
Costa Rica is home to abundant varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables that taste amazing and have many important health benefits. For example, leafy greens are an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps promote cell growth and repair in the body. Bananas and plantains are high in potassium and help maintain blood pressure. You will never run out of heathy options in Costa Rica. Costa Rican culture places great importance on healthy living, with an enormous array of fresh produce to choose from. This nutrient rich, colourful diet offers plenty of natural delights, that are both healthy and delicious.
BANANA BOOST
Bananas are the only fruit that contains the amino acid tryptophan plus vitamin B6, they help your body produce serotonin—a natural substance that alleviates depression.
MOUTHWATERING MANGOES
Mangoes are magnificent fruits. Not only are they delicious, they are packed with essential vitamins like Vitamin A, which help regulate your immune system and improve eyesight.
SCRUMPTIOUS SMOOTHIE
Costa Rica offers the perfect environment to enjoy a morning breakfast smoothie. Mix a banana, papaya and a little ice in a blender for a nourishing smoothie packed with potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6.

BLACK BEANS ARE A STAPLE OF COSTA RICAN CUISINE
Small, slightly sweet black beans are delicious with warm rice, chicken and other types of protein . Black beans are especially high in fiber, which benefits digestion and gut health. Eating a high-fiber diet may also help reduce the risks of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. There are many opportunities to try different styles of black beans while traveling through Costa Rica. One of my favourites is ordering Gallo Pinto, a local cuisine made up of rice and black beans. It can be found throughout Costa Rica.
Black beans are an excellent source of vegetable protein. Protein provides long-lasting energy for the body. Protein also plays a role in building new cells, enzymes and hormones. Add sliced avocado on top for a tasty meal or sustaining midday snack.

Costa Rica boasts a variety of dining options, including restaurants, food trucks, sodas and cafes, to enjoy on a romantic evening or night out with the family. Due to its abundant healthy options and legume-based diet, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica is considered a ‘blue zone.’ This means Costa Ricans live long, happy lives and suffer from few health issues.
